2021 will be the 6th OYF Summer Fun Day. Sadly in 2020 we had to cancel the event due to COVID, but in 2021 we are hosting a smaller event and moving to Elms Field as a venue. A fun packed day for all the family with games, raffle, face painting, stalls, refreshments including licensed bar, food and bbq.
School’s out and the summer holidays are here – yippee!! We, at the Ollie Young Foundation (OYF), always look forward to this time of year as we get to share with you all our ever-popular summer fun day.
So, if you’re about on Sunday 15th August from 11-4, then we have the perfect day out for you, your family and your friends too!
Our fun day has always been about having a family – friendly day out, bringing the community together, having fun, soaking up the atmosphere and creating some happy memories. Oh, and of course, raising those vital funds for our foundation to help us continue our journey, in Ollie’s name, to find a cure or prevention for brain tumours in children.
You may be aware of Ollie’s story, within 10 days of seeing signs that he wasn’t himself, 3 visits to the doctor and Ollie saying, ‘I have a dizzy head’, he was unable to walk. 12 weeks later, and the day before his 6th birthday, Ollie passed away peaceful at Helen & Douglas House children’s hospice.
Since then, the OYF raises money to fund research into brain tumours in children. We are eternally grateful to all our supporters as over the past 7 years you have helped us secure, so far, 9 years’ worth of funding at Portsmouth’s Cellular & Molecular Neuro-Oncology research Centre. We also support CLIC Sargent and Helen & Douglas House as both these charities are what got Ollie’s family and friends through the most difficult time of our lives and without these, there wouldn’t be the happy memories or the photos of Ollie’s last few weeks. Both Helen & Douglas House and CLIC Sargent, along with some of our PhD students from Portsmouth University will be there on the day, so you can have a chat, find out what these organisations do and where the money raised is being used to make a difference today and plans for the future.
Each year we try and bring something new to the event to keep it entertaining and fun for everyone. Some new games will be available to play as well as special performances from Platform YP Performing Arts and a surprise act within our arena too. Many stalls will be run by volunteers, ‘Olliette’s’, so you can be assured that the money you spend on these stalls will go directly to the charity and those it supports.
We will be using a token system again this year, head towards the OYF stall to purchase these on the day. Tokens will be used for all OYF stalls including our raffle, licensed bar, cakes and BBQ. Most external stall holders will accept the tokens too – they will display a sign of acceptance, if so.
There will be plenty to keep all ages entertained including: face-painting, cheeky seaside themed photo board (be sure to send us your pics!), Sam the Train, Inflatables, Zorbs, Archery, Laser Tag, Pop Up Golf, Free Kids Play Area – conveniently located next to the bar area, and we may even have a special surprise from a galaxy far, far away too!
We’ve food and tasty treats to tantalise your taste buds including a BBQ (OYF run, and all profits going directly to the foundation), a taste of Greece from OhGreekLicious and from Italy with the Italian Food Truck as well as delicious homemade cakes.
If you fancy some retail therapy, we’ve a super selection of local makers and sellers from personalised pieces to handmade crafts and jewellery.
We’ve an impressive array of prizes for our raffle. We’re able to offer tickets in advance of the day, tickets are on sale now through our committee members, via our social media or email Sarah at email@example.com. Tickets are priced at £1 each.
We’re extremely grateful to Jason from Red Events for his continued support of the OYF. On the day he’ll introduce our arena acts and will also be keeping us entertained (in the sunshine – we’ve booked that too!) with the latest tunes and there may also be a chance for some audience participation too!
Since starting the Ollie Young Foundation we’ve had the most amazing local (and beyond) support in all manner of ways, including sponsoring the fun day. If you’re interested in sponsoring our 2020 event please get in touch. A huge thanks again to our 2019 supporting companies!
Entry is, as always, FREE.
A date for your diary – the OYF Summer Fun Day, Cantley Park on Sunday 15th August from 11-4pm.
We promise it will be an Ollie-tastic day out!
